Before sending website photographs, check permission and purpose
Prepare a useful image library without exposing customers or relying on unclear usage rights.
A folder of photographs is easier to use when each image has a known purpose. A team portrait, product detail and completed-work image answer different customer questions. Choose images that help explain the business rather than filling every available space.
For an Australian service business, real work photographs can be useful. They also deserve a careful check for people, number plates, addresses, documents and other details that should not appear publicly.
Keep a short permission record
Record where the image came from, who owns it, what use is allowed and whether any permission has limits. A photograph received from a subcontractor is not automatically cleared for all marketing uses. Ask if uncertain.
The Australian Government's copyright overview explains the role of copyright in creative work. Seek advice for a rights dispute or unusual arrangement; a developer cannot resolve ownership by putting a credit beneath an image.
Prepare images for the page
Send original files through an agreed transfer method rather than screenshots from a messaging app where possible. Explain what each image shows and which claims it supports. Do not label a demonstration as a completed client project.
Decorative images and informative images need different treatment. An image showing how to find an entrance needs a useful text explanation; an abstract background should not interrupt someone using assistive technology with a long description.
Keep an update route
Decide who can replace a photograph and how a removal request is handled. Staff changes, product changes and expired permissions can make an old image inappropriate even when the page itself is still useful.
Our website work includes content preparation so images, descriptions and layout serve the same customer task. Clear source information makes that work faster and avoids preventable last-minute substitutions.
